17th annual look at who’s who in the industry
By Anne DiNardo
With an air of cautious optimism, the retail industry is building on the momentum of 2010 and looking to brighter days in the coming year. The retail design firm business is right there with them, ready for action. Of the 55 firms that participated in this year’s survey, more than half said their business was up in 2010. Another positive indicator, the days of cutting staff seem to be behind us, too, as the majority of companies say they’re maintaining current staff levels or looking to add positions in the coming year.
Those new hires are certain to be helping with the new initiatives and services that design firms have added in the last 12 to 18 months. According to VMSD’s survey, the top five new services include LEED/green consulting, materials sourcing/selection, site selection, fixture design and construction planning. These expanded offerings, combined with stable and motivated staffs, will help carry the industry forward in 2011 and beyond.
