Double-digit gains for in-store and online sales
American Eagle Outfitters Inc. (Pittsburgh) reports sales were up 11 percent to $832 million for the third quarter ended October 29. Same-store sales rose 5 percent, compared to a 1 percent increase last year.
“I am encouraged by our progress in the third quarter and the continued momentum into the holiday season,” says Jim O’Donnell, ceo. “Strong top line growth is evidence of the success of our key item strategy and merchandise improvements. Looking ahead to 2012, we have tremendous opportunity to capitalize on the strength of our brands and drive future profitable growth.”
During the third quarter, online sales, which include ae.com, aerie.com and 77kids.com, reached a record high rising 21 percent due to increased traffic and conversion.
The company opened six AE and seven aerie stores during the quarter and remodeled five stores, bringing its year-to-date total to 59.
