Sales reports from Home Depot, Walmart, Saks and Dick’s Sporting Goods

Here’s a review of retailer’s third quarter sales reports:

The Home Depot (Atlanta) announced net sales of $16.6 billion for the third quarter of fiscal 2010, a 1.4 percent increase from the same period last year. Same-store sales grew 1.4 percent and comp sales for U.S. stores were positive 1.5 percent. “Our third quarter sales reflect the fourth consecutive quarter of positive same store sales for our business,” says Frank Blake, chairman and ceo.

Walmart Stores Inc. (Bentonville, Ark.) reported sales rose 2.6 percent to $101.23 billion, although comparable-store sales fell 1.3 percent for Walmart stores in the U.S. The company also said the average ticket was down slightly versus the prior year.

Luxury specialty retailer Saks Inc. (New York) reported same-store sales grew 5.7 percent.

Sporting goods retailer Dick’s Sporting Goods Inc. (Pittsburgh) reported third quarter net sales increased by 9 percent to $1,079.0 million due primarily to a 5.1 percent increase in consolidated same-store sales and the opening of new stores. The consolidated same-store sales increase consisted of a 3.8 percent increase in Dick's Sporting Goods stores, a 2.4 percent increase in Golf Galaxy and an 82.4 percent increase in e-commerce.
During the third quarter, the company opened 12 new Dick's Sporting Goods stores, remodeled eight Dick's Sporting Goods stores, relocated one Dick's Sporting Goods store and closed 12 underperforming Golf Galaxy stores.
