American Eagle Outfitters Inc. (Pittsburgh, Pa.) is focusing on opening more outlets while closing a selection of underperforming stores, including from its Aerie brand.

“We’re reviewing opportunities to consolidate markets and selectively close stores,” ceo Robert Hanson told Women’s Wear Daily. “We’re also looking to accelerate outlet store openings and expect to more than double the store base from 67 today. Rebalancing our store fleet over time represents another shareholder return opportunity.”

American Eagle operates 911 American Eagle Outfitters stores and 158 Aerie stores. It also recently announced it was closing its children’s concept, 77kids.
