Apparel Spending Increases

Sales increased by 12.6 percent according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics analyzed household expenditures from July 2013 through June 2015 and has released the findings from those reports. It found that consumers spent “significantly more” on clothing during the time period of July 2014 to June 2015 than the previous year. (The data did not include the holiday shopping season.)

In the second time period, apparel sales increased by 12.6 percent. Every segment within the category (which includes men’s, women’s, children, accessories and footwear purchases) experienced sales increases, reports Women’s Wear Daily. That contrasts with the previous year when apparel spending declined by 1.9 percent.
