The National Retail Federation (Washington, D.C.) released survey findings regarding the amount that families expect to spend on back-to-school shopping this year.

According to the survey, 29 percent of households with school-aged children expect to spend more than they did last year on back-to-school shopping. Nearly 30 percent of households with college-aged children plan to spend more, as well.

Last year, only 24 percent of school-aged families and 23 percent of college-aged families planned to increase their spending. According to the survey, this increase reflects an improving economy.

The survey polled more than 6400 adults with grade school- and college-aged children and was conducted by Prosper Insights & Analytics (Worthington, Ohio).
