Ten office-supply stores to house Fleet branches

FleetBoston Financial Corp (Boston) will soon offer small-business banking services at 10 Staples Inc. (Framingham, Mass.) stores in the Northeast U.S.

The branches, called Fleet Small Business Zones, will be freestanding, 150-square-foot offices manned by two Fleet sales representatives. Plans call for three such branches in Massachusetts, five in New Jersey and two in Pennsylvania. All are expected to open by late summer.

Staples operates more than 1400 office superstores, while FleetBoston has about 1500 branches in the Northeast.
