Retailer to occupy 90,000 square feet across Oak Street
Barneys New York Inc. will move into a new Chicago location in spring 2009 that will nearly double the size of its presence on the city’s Oak Street fashion corridor.
According to Women’s Wear Daily, the retailer will move across the street to a new six-story structure, complete with a penthouse-style Fred’s restaurant and 90,000 square feet of selling space. The retailer’s original Chicago location, at the corner of Oak and Rush streets, was 52,000 square feet.
“We wanted to give our Chicago customers a richer experience, something that will parallel the Madison Avenue flagship in New York,” said creative director Simon Doonan. “It would have been very easy to stay where we were, but this next step feels right for us.”
