Barneys New York and 18 additional retailers and restaurants debut today at Scottsdale Fashion Square, as part of a 100,000 square foot expansion at the Arizona shopping center, which is owned by Macerich (Santa Monica, Calif.), one of the nation's largest owners, operators and developers of regional shopping centers. "We continue to elevate the Scottsdale Fashion Square shopping experience to meet the interests of this fashion-focused market," says Edward Coppola, president of Macerich.
Barneys’ ninth flagship is 60,000 square feet. The space became available when Macy’s Inc. (then called Federated Department Stores Inc.) closed its Robinsons-May store at Fashion Square in 2006. Barneys announced in December of that year that it would open at Fashion Square. The Robinson-May store and a parking garage were torn down, and construction of the new wing started in December 2007.
The Barneys store carries an assortment of high-end shoes, cosmetics, fragrances, homeware and men's and women's fashions from established and emerging designers, as well as a Fred’s restaurant. The second floor houses the retailer’s signature men's collections and Barney's Co-Op, the casual offspring of the Manhattan-based specialty retailer. Women's designers' collections from Balenciaga, Dries van Noten, Givenchy and other top names are located downstairs.
Other new retail and restaurant tenants include: Aqua Beachwear, LTJ Arthur, Aveda Lifestyle Salon, Christian Audigier, Forever 21, Fred's (within Barneys New York), J.Crew, Love Culture, Kenneth Cole, Marcella's Italian Kitchen, Michael Stars, Modern Steak, Pandora, Paris Optique, Perfume Gallery, Stash Collections and True Religion.
Scottsdale Fashion Square features 1.9 million square feet of retail space, including five department stores, such as Barneys New York, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Macy's and Dillard's, and more than 200 shops and restaurants. "We approach greater Phoenix as a long-term proposition, and a market with very attractive growth prospects over time," says Coppola. "This is a region with a dynamic future."
