Big Lots Inc. (Columbus, Ohio) has reported an 8.5 percent increase in retail sales for the four weeks ended Feb. 26, 2005.

Same-store sales increased 3.3 percent. The value of the average basket increased 6.7 percent and the number of customer transactions decreased 3.4 percent.
