Liz Claiborne purchases its Canadian merchandise distributor

Liz Claiborne Inc. (New York) announced that it has agreed to purchase Mexx Canada Inc. (Montreal), a fashion apparel and accessories company that distributes Liz Claiborne's merchandise under the Mexx brand throughout Canada. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2002.
