But the time-honored name lives on as a children’s footwear brand

Collective Brands, Inc., is rebranding Stride Rite Corp. as Collective Brands Performance + Lifestyle Group. The new name reflects the group’s evolution as a retailer offering a broader range of premium and icon performance and lifestyle footwear and related accessories.
“We believe this new name elevates the strength and diversity of our brand portfolio, while also representing our role in Collective Brands,” said Gregg Ribatt, ceo of the group, in a prepared statement.
It also allows the company “to unleash the important individual brands," enabling them to operate according to own strategic plans and target specific consumers and markets, added Matthew E. Rubel, chairman, ceo and president of Collective Brands, Inc.
Parents and children needn’t fear that they’ll lose one of the most familiar names in children’s footwear. Stride Rite lives on, both as the Stride Rite Children’s Group and as a footwear brand.
