Continental Airlines'Terminal C at Newark (N.J.) International Airport, the Houston-based carrier's hub airport on the East Coast, was honored by Airport Retail News magazine for its retail concessions.

The magazine's annual awards honored the terminal for “Best Overall Program” and “Best Management Team” in the Single Airport Terminal category, and for the “best-designed storefronts and layout, and great tenant mix,” according to the publication.

The terminal has 100,000 square feet of leasable space, and generates more than $70 million in annual revenue serving more than 20 million passengers per year.

The concessions include Americo's Pizza, US Open Golf House, d-parture Spa, A&W Root Beer, Rose Valenti Fragrances, Steak- Escape, Famous Famiglia and Waldenbooks.

“World-class shops and restaurants were envisioned as a key part of the Terminal C renovation and expansion,” said Holden Shannon, Continental vp of corporate real estate. “The success of the airport retail stores stems from the variety and quality they offer, as well as the fact that they are expertly managed and offer prices that are competitive with the surrounding area.”
