Apparel retailer opens new NY store with plans for major restyling and expansion

J. Crew (New York) opened an 8500-square-foot store on Madison Avenue in its home city that is reported to be central to a re-imaging and expansion campaign.

According to the report, Crew plans to double its number of stores from 133 to 260 by 2005, with a refined look to its stores that aims to surpasses its catalogue business image.

The former catalog-only apparel purveyor has about 140 retail and factory outlets in the US. It also has about 70 outlets in Japan through a joint venture with Itochu.
