Dick’s Scales Back New Store Plans

Cuts profit projections

Published

on

Dick’s Sporting Goods (Coraopolis, Pa.) has scaled back its plans for new stores along with its predictions for revenue growth and profitability over the next several years.

The company cited continued sluggish demand for some of its core products, including golf, fitness and hunting equipment, as the driver of the revised plans.

Dick’s expects to have between 735 and 750 Dick's stores by the end of 2017, which is down from a September 2013 prediction of 815 stores by the end of 2017, reports Pittburgh’s Tribune-Review. The company also said it would not build any more Golf Galaxy stores, and would have 30 to 35 Field & Stream stores by 2017, instead of 55.

With fewer stores, the company has cut its forecast for revenue and operating margin.
