MANAGEMENT CHANGES

Visual merchandising and retail store-planning supplier M. Lavine Design Workshop (St. Cloud, Minn.) named Gary Huls executive vp. In this position, Huls will be responsible for developing new product lines geared toward visual merchandising and store planning clients, as well as overall sales and marketing strategies.

Architecture and interior design firm Bergmeyer Associates Inc. (Boston) promoted Darryl Filippi and Rachel Zsembery to senior associates. Zsembery, a member of VMSD’s Editorial Advisory Board is part of a team leading the advanced use of Building Information Modeling to more fully employ the features of this highly data-rich medium in design, documentation and management processes. Filippi is working on new construction and renovations for Endicott College, Northeastern University and the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.

General contracting firm Tri-North Builders (Madison, Wis.) hired and promoted the following team members: Carol Van Loon as a project manager for the environmental graphics and branding division, Nova Retail Group; Faye Wright as accounting manager; Maria Brock as account executive for the environmental graphics and branding division, Nova Retail Group; Mary Lynn Dernbach as account executive for Tri-North’s Nova Retail Group; Micah Shaw as project manager and estimator for Tri-North’s Retail Division; Mike Ritter as a project manager; Mindy Twilegar as project controller; Nakisha Sanders as communications assistant; and Amanda Zimmerman Holley as administrative assistant.

STORE OPENINGS

Sporting goods chain Dick's Sporting Goods opened a store at Jubilee Square in Daphne, Ala. The location is the Findlay Township, Pa.-based retailer's 10th store in the state and its 449th nationwide.

Restaurant franchise Johnny Rockets (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) opened a 3010-square-foot location in Westchester, N.Y. The hamburger franchise, owned by RedZone Capital GP LLC, has more than 320 locations worldwide.

BUSINESS BRIEFS

Red Chariot (Minneapolis) added sound branding company Audiobrain (New York) to its retail collaborative, a group of industry leaders made available to Red Chariot clients to help create solutions for retail challenges.

The Nuckolls Fund for Lighting Education presented the $10,000 Edison Price Fellowship Grant to Tina Sarawgi, associate professor of the department of interior architecture the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, who developed interactive teaching modules to demonstrate the effective use of lighting design on software programs. The $5000 Jonas Bellovin Scholar Achievement Award went to Leora Radetsky, a Ph.D. candidate at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s Lighting Research Center, who is conducting research on the health implications of light. June Park, a second year student with the MFA Lighting Design program at Parsons The New School for Design, received the $5000 Jules Horton International Student Achievement Award.
