Dollar General Opening New Store Prototype

Convenience store model will target busy urban shoppers

Dollar General (Goodlettsville, Tenn.) plans to open a new prototype store this fall in Nashville. The 3400-square-foot sales floor will operate more like a convenience store, targeting busy, metropolitan shoppers.

The store, which is tentatively being branded as DGX, will offer everyday low prices on essential items in an easy-to-shop format with fast check-outs, reports The Tennessean. It also plans to brew and sell coffee in-store, which would make it the first store under Dollar General to do so. It also plans to sell soda and grab-and-go sandwiches.

The retailer also plans to open a second store under the DGX model early next year in Raleigh, N.C.
