Retailer's second quarter earnings fall seems attributable to dot.com operations

Internet commerce wasn't kind to Toys R Us during the recently concluded second quarter. The Paramus, N.J.-based superstore retailer showed quarterly earnings of just $3 million, whereas a year ago it recorded earnings of $12 million for the same period. However,when excluding the impact of Toysrus.com, earnings actually rose, to $16 million from $15 million a year ago. Comparable-store sales rose 3 percent.
