Family Dollar Stretches Further

Family Dollar Stores Inc. (Charlotte, N.C.) opened 33 new stores during the four-week period ended February 2. Those openings give the discount retailer a total of 4270 stores.

Family Dollar's new outlets are in the following states: seven in Texas; five in Michigan; four in Louisiana; three in Arizona; two each in New York and Ohio; and one each in Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Maine, Massachusetts, Nebraska, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Rhode Island and South Carolina.

The company has been on a store-opening spree; during its most recent fiscal year, it opened just over 500 new outlets. Family Dollar operates stores in 39 states, ranging as far northwest as South Dakota, northeast to Maine, southeast to Florida and southwest to Arizona.
