Farm Stores (Coconut Grove, Fla.) has announced that it is expanding its chain of drive-thru grocery and convenience stores outside of Florida for the first time. The company, which operates about 70 stores in the state, plans to open a store in the Houston area and expects to add 300 stores total throughout Houston, New Jersey and Louisiana, many of which will be located in the suburbs.

The company is still finalizing a lease for the Houston location, but hopes to open the store early next year. The stores are marketed toward customers who need to pick up a few items on their way home from work. The drive-thru stores offer standard convenience store fare as well as fresh produce, freshly baked bread and take-home meals.

“We are basically mom's convenience store,” the company’s ceo Maurice Bared told The Houston Chronicle
