Helping Bon-Ton market private labels

The Bon-Ton Stores looked toward an unlikely source to help develop and market its private label merchandise. The York, Pa.-based retailer announced it would add Federated Merchandising Group (a division of Federated Department Stores Inc., Cincinnati) as a sourcing component for its private brands. Bon-Ton vice chairman and coo Michael Gleim expects the new program to “strengthen the private label segment” of the apparel, accessory and home furnishings business.

Federated began its Merchandising Group in 1996 to help develop private label presentations for its various department store chains.
