HMSHost Corp. (Bethesda, Md.), the world's largest provider of food, beverage and retail concessions to the travel industry, has opened Gustav's Pub & Grill in Portland International Airport.

A Portland, Ore., institution for nearly 40 years, Gustav's features authentic German sausages (bier sausage, weisswurst, and bratwurst), burgers, fries, onion-rings and its collection of beer, wine and spirits. Other popular items include Kase fondue, Bavarian Lentil Soup, a variety of schnitzels, sauerkraut and warm German potato salad.

“We are extremely proud to bring one of Portland's best-known and most esteemed restaurant concepts to Portland International,” says Ron Gomes, senior director of business development for HMSHost. “In recent years, PDX has worked hard to have its concessions program showcase the richness and character of the Portland area. We are very happy to continue this tradition with Gustav's.”

The new restaurant has the authentic look and feel of a German beer pub, with plentiful seating and fine wood furnishings tastefully incorporated into the airport's recently built South Concourse. Artifacts from Germany adorn the walls, complementing photos from Gustav's city locations and the richly detailed wood wainscots.

“We are very excited to have Gustav's join our concession lineup,” says Scott Kilgo, PDX senior manager of concessions development. “It adds to the many tastes of the 'real Portland'in our airport environment. We expect that the passengers will enjoy it.”

In addition to Gustav's, HMSHost operates a Starbucks Coffee location in the airport's South Concourse lobby. Together, the two concepts are expected to generate nearly $3 million in sales annually.

HMSHost, formerly known as Host Marriott Services, creates concession plans in travel venues, shopping malls and entertainment venues. Of its roughly 175 facilities, more than 70 are in U.S. and international airports. HMSHost is a subsidiary of Autogrill S.p.A., Europe's largest fast-food chain for travelers.
