Golden Corral, the Raleigh, N.C.-based buffet-grill chain, is testing a new, larger prototype that features more display cooking areas, a doughnut shop, carving/grill station. The concept is also testing new food offering, including a pizza stand, Asian and Mexican hot-food stations and an ice-cream shop featuring hand-dipped frozen treats.
Three locations, measuring 14,000 square feet and seating 500 patrons, have been involved in the pilot test, with a fourth redesigned unit recently opening in San Antonio.
According to Nation’s Restaurant News, Larry Tate, senior vp of franchise, says the new prototype will be used as a “design innovation for both new stores and is already being incorporated into the remodeling of existing units.”
