Google Subleasing New York Store

Planned to be company’s first retail location

Published

Google (Mountain View, Calif.) had planned to open its first bricks-and-mortar store in New York’s SoHo at 131 Greene St. Those plans seem to have changed, though, reports Crain’s New York Business, as the company is now looking to sublease the location for $2.25 million a year.

The company took out a lease for the 5442-square-foot space last year and spent $6 million renovating the location. The renovations included lowering part of the ground floor, adding glass skylights and exposing the building’s brick walls and steel beams. It also renovated the exterior so the entryway would be at street level.

It has not yet been announced whether the company is considering other locations for a physical retail store.
