Gucci Group NV (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) has received approval from the Indian government to enter the country's retail market through single brand stores. The proposal was made by Luxury Goods Retail, which sells products under the Gucci brand in India under a franchise agreement.
In 2006, the luxury brand entered the market through a franchise agreement with Murjani Retail. That agreement ended this past July and replaced with a new franchise.
Gucci already operates two stores in Delhi and Mumbai and has announced plans to expand to other cities, including Bangalore, as well as bring in additional product lines to the country, including men's women's ready-to-wear, handbags, shoes, watches and accessories.
