Haggar Clothing Co. (Dallas) has named Lou Spagna senior vp of Haggar Direct Inc., the company's six-year-old retail subsidiary. Spagna, most recently president of the retail division of Bugle Boy Industries, will be responsible for the sales, marketing and operations for the 66 Haggar Direct retail stores.

At Bugle Boy Industries, which filed for bankruptcy protection in April, Spagna restructured and executed a turnaround plan focused on merchandising, marketing, real estate reduction and organizational development. He has also been coo for Gotcha International L.P., president of the mens division at Merry-Go-Round Enterprises and a senior vp for May Department Stores.

“Lou Spagna is a seasoned retailer,” said Alan Burks, Haggar executive vp and cmo. “With Lou's leadership, Haggar Direct will continue to be an integral part of Haggar's growth.”

The company also announced the promotion of Terry Chisholm to director of sales and marketing of its U.K. subsidiary. She will be responsible for sales, merchandising and marketing of the brand throughout Europe. Her immediate focus, said the company, is the continued rollout of Haggar shops in key department stores. Her prior experience included stints as sales manager for Allcourt Leisure Ltd., U.K. sales and design manager for Grogan Bros. Ltd. and divisional sales and design manager for Dante Prini.

Haggar Clothing Co., a wholly owned subsidiary of Haggar Corp., markets men's casual and dress apparel and women's sportswear in the U.S., U.K., Canada, Mexico, South Africa and Indonesia. The company also holds exclusive licenses in the U.S. to use the Claiborne trademark, and in the U.S. and Canada to use the DKNY trademark to manufacture, market and sell men's shorts and pants in men's classification pant departments.
