Department store company secures exclusive Canadian franchise rights for UK brands
The Hudson's Bay Co. (Toronto) has secured the Canadian franchise rights for U.K.-based retail fashion brands Topshop and Topman. The rights include both shops within stores and standalone stores. The first Topshop and Topman stores are expected to open within The Bay in the fall of 2011.
Topshop and Topman, which is owned by Arcadia Group, operate in 37 countries around the world.
"We couldn't be more excited about adding Topshop and Topman to The Bay's growing roster of fashion-forward finds," says Bonnie Brooks, president and ceo, The Bay. "Those in the know have been anxiously waiting for Topshop and Topman to come to Canada on a large scale, and The Bay is thrilled to deliver. It's a material step towards cementing The Bay as a world-class department store that delivers the ultimate fashion experience for our savvy clientele."
“This represents another step in our continued international growth, and I am confident that The Bay's customers will enjoy the retail experience and fantastic product offer that both our brands will deliver for them," says Sir Philip Green, owner, Arcadia Group, the U.K.'s largest privately owned clothing retailer with more than 2500 outlets.
The company operates a flagship in New York and also has store openings planned for Brazil and Chicago.
