New stores and renovations part of long-range plan

J.C. Penney Co. (Plano, Texas) plans to open new stores in "underserved" markets, reports The Wall Street Journal. The initiative is part of a long-range plan that includes major renovations to more than 375 locations by 2014.

The department store chain announced plans for new stores next year in Dallas, San Francisco’s Daly City suburb, and Glenarden, Md., an area outside Washington D.C.

Among its renovation efforts, J.C. Penney will increase the number of Sephora shops within its stores. Sales at locations with the Sephora offerings average 1.5 percent above those without, according to the company.
