Europe leads sales growth
McDonald's Corp. (Oak Brook, Ill.) reports global sales rose 5.6 percent for the second quarter ended June 30, 2011. Around the globe, sales were up 4.5 percent in the U.S.; 5.9 percent in Europe; and 5.2 percent in Asia/Pacific, Middle East and Africa.
"McDonald's global results for the quarter demonstrate the resilience of our Plan to Win and our ability to execute successfully,” says McDonald's ceo Jim Skinner. “Comparable sales and guest count increases across all segments, highlighted by June's strong results, drove double-digit operating income and earnings per share growth."
The company’s consolidated operating income increased 19 percent (11 percent in constant currencies) and diluted earnings per share of $1.35, up 19 percent (11 percent in constant currencies).
