M&S Appoints New Chairman ... and More Industry News

MANAGEMENT CHANGES

Marks & Spencer (London) has appointed Robert Swannell as its new chairman. Swannell will join M&S’s board as a non-executive director in October and then will take up his position as chairman in January 2011. M&S’s current chairman, Sir Stuart Rose, will continue in his role until January and then will step down from the board and leave M&S.

Anthem Worldwide, a Schawk Strategic Design Company, has named John Kitzmiller to the position of creative director for its Cincinnati office. Kitzmiller most recently worked with Interbrand

STORE OPENINGS

Bloomingdale’s unveiled its new 101,000-square-foot store at Santa Monica Place, the 1980s center designed by Frank Gehry. The location of the Bloomingdale’s was once a Macy’s and Mancini Duffy (New York) helped on the interior design of the space.

Big Apple Bagels (Deerfield, Ill.) opened a prototype restaurant in Minot, N.D. The company is focusing its efforts on growing the system with its latest concept and plans to open locations in Indiana, Michigan and Denver.

BUSINESS BRIEFS

Matrix Frame USA (aluminum frame and tension fabric systems provider) has opened its North American operations in Charlotte, N.C. Andre America, founder and owner of Matrix Frame in The Netherlands, has partnered with Jack Thomas, founder and owner of Thomas Sign Creations, the Matrix Frame dealer in North Carolina, to set up the new company. Thomas will oversee the daily operations.

Nessen Lighting (Mamaroneck, N.Y.), successor company to Nessen Studio, has been purchased from Philips Lighting, who owned the company since early 2008. Coldstream Group Inc. was created as a holding company to purchase Nessen and d’ac (“decorative accents”) Lighting, a sister company begun by Nessen Lighting in 1995. Coldstream is owned and operated by management familiar with Nessen Lighting since the 1980s, and who began d’ac.

AWARDS

Serigraph Inc. (West Bend, Wis.) won two Awards of Recognition and seven Certificates of Merit for its innovative printing entries in the Annual Premier Print Awards, hosted by the Printing Industries of America.
