Blair Gordon, formerly of Nautica, to take charge of J. Crew creative and retail
Blair Gordon, formerly executive vp of specialty retail at Nautica Enterprises (New York), has been appointed executive vp, creative director, at J.Crew Group (New York), effective Jan. 7, 2002. He will report directly to ceo Mark Sarvary and direct the creative process for all aspects of the J.Crew brand, including the retail stores, catalog and web site, and the company's marketing efforts.
At Nautica, Gordon was responsible for all creative, operational and merchandising aspects of the apparel manufacturer's full-price stores, including the Rockefeller Plaza flagship and the John Varvatos and Earl Jean stores on Mercer Street in New York's SoHo district. Prior to that, he was vp of creative services for retail at Polo Ralph Lauren Corp.
"We're very pleased to have Blair on board," Sarvary said. "His track record of creative leadership and extensive background in branded apparel will be tremendous assets as we focus on more distinct communication of the J.Crew brand across all of our distribution channels. In particular, J. Crew's retail stores represent an increasingly important vehicle for communicating with the consumer. Blair will be instrumental in helping us more effectively convey the brand image and add more dimension to the stores."
J. Crew operates 135 retail stores and 41 factory outlet stores in addition to its vigorous catalog business. It also has about 70 outlets in Japan through a joint venture with Itochu. Its sales come entirely from J. Crew brand items.
