Kmart extends its Martha Stewart offering; Wal-Mart expands its own cosmetics line

While Kmart extends its Martha Stewart line of products, Wal-Mart has said it will expand its own cosmetics label.

Kmart (Troy, Mich.) announced it will debut a line of 314 home organizing products called Martha Stewart Everyday Keeping. The new line offers tools — hangers, shoe racks, accessory racks, boxes, laundry sorters, baskets, hampers, laundry bags, clothespins and clothespin bags, drawer organizers, storage containers, racks, caddies and shelving — for organizing kitchens, pantries, laundry rooms and closets. That brings to six the Martha Stewart product lines selling 4500 items in Kmart stores. Other core content areas and product categories include bed and bath; paint; outdoor garden furniture, tools and live plants; housewares and kitchen textiles in the cooking and entertaining area; and baby products.

Wal-Mart (Bentonville, Ark.) says it will expand the No Boundaries private-label cosmetics test it launched in a small number of stores in March. The line, 70 products aimed at ages 7 to 19, will appear in 1500 stores going head to head with brands like Cover Girl and Jane. Analysts suggest that Wal-Mart could yet become a significant force in the $3.5 billion-a-year U.S. cosmetics market.
