When Sprint PCS (Southfield, Mich.) opens its new Troy, Mich., store next month, it will be its 12th store in its home state, twice what it had at the beginning of the year.

The previous locations to open in 2001 include Novi, Detroit, Okemos, Portage and Ann Arbor. Six Michigan stores already existed, in Dearborn, Flint, Madison Heights, Northville, Shelby Township and the wireless provider's headquarters city of Southfield. “While other industries may be experiencing a slow down,” said Tony Lent, Great Lakes area vp of Sprint, “Sprint PCS is experiencing a continued customer boom [with] record-breaking growth for 11 consecutive quarters.”

Sprint began offering digital services in Michigan in October 1997, less than one year after launching its first four markets nationwide. Currently, Sprint PCS'all-digital, all-PCS network serves 59 of 61 major Michigan cities, as well as 222 of 224 major national cities and 4000 communities.
