Staff changes will help drive global growth
Staples Inc. (Framingham, Mass.) has appointed John Barton to the newly created position of executive vp, international development. Barton, who joined the company in 1990, will oversee Staples’ high-growth markets in China, India and South America. Prior to his promotion, he served as executive vp of real estate.
In addition, the office products company named Anders Kristiansen president of Staples China and Noah Herschman chief of merchandising for Staples China.
“John brings more than 20 years of experience with Staples to his new role and, through his deep understanding of our culture and operations, will help drive our success in international markets in the years ahead,” says Mike Miles, Staples president and chief operating officer. “Anders brings tremendous international and industry experience to Staples and Noah brings a wealth of merchandising experience and online expertise. Both Anders and Noah will play important roles in growing our business in China.”
Staples also recently announced that it expects to soon complete its acquisition of Corporate Express Australia, further strengthening its presence in Asia Pacific.
The company reported 2009 sales of $24 billion and operates in 26 countries throughout North and South America, Europe, Asia and Australia.
