Parent company announces retail and marketing changes

Royal Ahold is launching a corporate reorganization that could affect subsidiary Stop & Shop (Quincy, Mass.). Faith Weiner, a spokeswoman for Stop & Shop, told The Patriot Ledger that the U.S. division of Dutch conglomerate Royal Ahold unveiled a new structure on Wednesday for the company’s U.S. retail merchandising and marketing organization.

She declined to elaborate on the corporate changes but said support office jobs for the grocery chain could be changed, eliminated, moved or added. Royal Ahold operates its nonperishable and fresh merchandising functions out of Carlisle, Pa., where its Ahold USA Retail offices are located.

Corporate changes began in 2008 when Ahold named Carl Schlicker ceo of Stop & Shop and its sister group, Giant-Landover. A few months later, Schlicker was promoted to ceo of the company’s U.S. retail organizations and the Stop & Shop chain was divided into a New England and New York metro group with Mark McGowan serving as president of the New England group.

The reorganization is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
