Target Corp. (Minneapolis) was named Retailer of the Year, 2001, at VM+SD's first annual International Retail Design Conference, October 28-31 at Walt Disney World's Contemporary Resort in Orlando. In honoring the retailer, VM+SD associate publisher Carole Winters and editor Steve Kaufman announced that the award would be called the VM+SD/Peter Glen Retailer of the Year Award, in honor of the VM+SD columnist, designer, motivational speaker, lecturer and analyst who died suddenly on Oct. 4, 2001.

Target was honored for its “full commitment to design,” said Kaufman, a commitment that is represented not only in its stores but also in its products, ads, visual icons and overall approach to retailing.

Full coverage of VM+SD's first annual event will appear in the magazine's December 2001 and February 2002 issues and on its web site, www.vmsd.com. The 2002 event is scheduled for Pasadena, Calif., in September.
