Will lead global operations for Urban Outfitters brand
Urban Outfitters Inc. (Philadelphia), which operates the Anthropologie, Free People, BHLDN, Terrain and Urban Outfitters brands, has hired Ted Marlow as ceo of the Urban Outfitters brand, reports Women’s Wear Daily. He will be responsible for the brand globally, including its 194 stores in the U.S., Canada and Europe.
“We are excited to have Ted rejoin our Urban team,” said Richard Hayne, ceo, Urban Outfitters Inc. “Ted is an exceptional leader with great vision and has an intimate knowledge of and appreciation for the brand.”
Marlow was president of the Urban Outfitters division from 2001 to 2010, growing the brand to more than $1 billion in revenues, opening more than 100 stores in the U.S., and expanding the brand into Canada and Continental Europe. He most recently worked at the Indigo book chain in Canada, which he left at the end of January.
The troubled Urban Outfitters has reported a yearlong decline in profits and negative comparable-store sales. Recently, Glen Senk stepped down as ceo of Urban Outfitters Inc. to join David Yurman as ceo. He was succeeded by Hayne, Urban Outfitters’ founder.
