Teen Retailers Up Slightly

Experts credit more on-trend items

While fast-fashion stores have held the teen market in recent years, traditional young adult retailers, including American Eagle, Aéropostale, Abercrombie & Fitch and Urban Outfitters have shown improvement with their target customers in the most recent quarter. CNBC credits more on-trend merchandise, a strong back-to-school season and better-controlled inventories in recent months for the slight uptick.

Planned improvements across the four major teen sellers include Abercrombie’s plan to terminate its logo products in North America by next spring and American Eagle’s shift away from a denim-heavy inventory and toward “more soft dressing trends,” including the “red-hot ‘athleisure’ category,” according to the CNBC.
