Twelve locations open in Manhattan and Brooklyn in former Dunkin' Donuts sites
Canadian coffee chain Tim Hortons (Oakville, Ont.) has arrived in New York, with 12 locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn. The stores are being opened in conjunction with franchisee Riese Organization, the operator of more than 100 restaurants in New York, including TGI Friday's, KFC and Pizza Hut.
The Tim Hortons locations are taking over sites formerly occupied by Dunkin' Donuts. Of the 12 Tim Hortons restaurants, 10 are in Manhattan ¬– three Tim Hortons sites within Penn Station alone – and two in Brooklyn.
"There's a lot of excitement, a lot of buzz," says Tim Hortons' regional marketing manager Anne Pritz. "There are a lot of Canadians ecstatic to see us. Dozens have come up to us. It's a little piece of home."
Tim Hortons operates more than 3000 locations in Canada and about 500 in the U.S. The company plans another 30 to 40 locations in the U.S. this year, with three additional New York stores cobranded with ice cream chain Cold Stone Creamery.
