Laura Weil takes the top job at the parent company of Ashley Stewart
Retail industry veteran Laura Weil is Urban Brands Inc.’s new ceo. She comes to the Secaucus, N.J.-based apparel and accessories company with 20 years experience. Most recently, she served as evp and coo of Ann Taylor Stores Corp. Prior to that, Weil was evp and cfo for American Eagle Outfitters where she was involved with the development and growth of ae.com and “played a critical role” in growing company sales from $200 million in 1995 to more than $2 billion in 2005. A graduate of Smith College with an MBA in marketing and finance from Columbia University, Weil also held senior executive positions with CIBC Oppenheimer, R.H. Macy & Co. and Lehman Brother. She is currently a member of Carnival Corp.’s corporate board.
Urban Brands, the parent of the 216-store Ashley Stewart chain, is counting on Weil’s “deep retail industry experience…talent to take the company to the next level,” said Dean Kehler, managing partner of asset management firm Trimaran Capital Partners and a member of Urban Brands’ board of directors, in a corporate statement.
