Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (Bentonville, Ark.) reported an 11.2 percent increase in net sales for the five-week period ending July 1, 2005.

Wal-Mart Stores enjoyed an 11.7 percent sales gain; Sam’s Club was up 6.9 percent; and international sales were up 12.4 percent.

Same-store sales for the period were up 4.5 percent, 4.6 percent for Wal-Mart Stores and 4 percent for Sam’s Club.

“We are encouraged by the higher comp store sales momentum,” said Tom Schoewe, executive vp and cfo. “We do, however, continue to experience expense pressure in the quarter.”
