Whole Foods Comparable Sales Drop

Older stores presenting sales challenges

Published

on

Whole Foods (Austin, Texas) released its most recent quarterly report this week, and for the first time since 2009, the retailer saw its comparable same-store sales decline. The drop was 0.2 percent. This also marked the third quarterly drop since 2000. For the current quarter, the company’s comparable sales are also down 2.1 percent.

Some of the slowdown in sales can be traced to the fact that many of the chain’s stores are old, which are presenting sales challenges, reports Fortune; nearly three-quarters are more than five years old. The company has plans to build 38 new stores over the next year.
