Whole Foods Markets Inc. (Austin, Texas) announced yesterday it will be eliminating 1500 jobs in the next two months. The layoffs will reduce the company’s headcount by 1.6 percent.

Fortune reports that Co-CEO Walter Robb says the move is part of the company’s “ongoing commitment to lower prices for its customers,” and cited technology investments as reasoning for the change.

The announcement stated team members whose positions are being eliminated will be offered a choice between transition pay, severance or applying for other jobs within the company.
