Visual companies to aid FIT students in holiday display project

Holiday windows created by the students of the Fashion Institute of Technology's Display and ExhibitDesign program will be on display throughout December in the ground floor windows of the Fred P.Pomerantz Art and Design Center (Seventh Avenue at 27 Street).

Each window will feature products from a particular vendor who has also donated designer merchandise. Participating showrooms include Bernstein Display, Carol Barnhart, DK Display, France Display, Look, Lifestyle Forms and Display, Patina-V, Pucci International and Universal Display and Design.

“This project is designed to help our students gain hands-on experience with some of the latest tools of the visual merchandising trade, including fixtures, mannequins, and props,” said Anne Kong, chairperson of the Display and Exhibit Design program. The FIT windows will be on view in time for ShopEast and the holiday shopping season.

FIT's Display and Exhibit Design Department is the only one of its kind in the country. Graduates of this two-year associate degree major are prepared for careers as display and exhibit designers in department and specialty stores, exhibition studio artists, and coordinators of p-o-p, event and promotional display.
