DESCRIPTION
The Manager of Visual Merchandising will take an active role in assisting the Director of Visual Merchandising & Store Design with visual merchandising programs as communicated by the Corporate Retail Division and will be responsible for collaborating with a core team of professionals within the retail department and other departments within the company.
He or she will also assist with the development of visual displays, signage and merchandise presentations by creating innovative, brand-appropriate merchandising and presentation solutions in order to maximize sales and gross profits. This individual will also maintain the visual merchandising operation and direction of each retail location while managing a team of visual merchandise coordinators.
KEY JOB FUNCTIONS:
This position manages corporate visual merchandising standards:
Assist with merchandising strategies and rollouts to ensure effective representation of company objectives and brand personality.
Oversees and implements a corporate-wide visual merchandise training program.
Maximizes effective communication of presentation standards, procedures and product knowledge by offering and conducting visual training and development to retail staff.
Partners with Product Developers, Merchants, Marketing and Operations to support the continuous sales growth and equip the stores to effectively drive sales.
Identifies merchandising solutions to ensure product is properly displayed in order to optimize sales while maintaining visual standards.
Participates in the development of merchandising and fixture solutions for all new and existing brands and environments.
Manages fixture inventory, hardware, props and display items.
Supports the buying team with accurate, updated floor plans, fixture type and details of all retail locations and space capabilities.
Manages plan-o-grams to help set floor fixtures and wall sections.
Reviews vendors’ compliancy regarding fixtures, signage and/or props.
Maintains a system to measure visual merchandising effectiveness; monitors and reports findings and makes recommendations for increasing sales.
Maintains a company-wide corporate approved retail sign program that includes the design and branding for all sign paper, templates and layouts.
Partners on store graphics, window vinyl and signage for all store locations.
Adheres to annual visual and store fixture budget.
Visits stores and properties on a regular basis to review, suggest and guide new directives and suggest any revisions as it relates to merchandise presentation, fixtures and store design.
Source display props and visual elements, enhancements and fixtures as it relates to a store project.
Create purchase orders as needed and provide tracking updates regarding all orders.
Attends tradeshows.
Merchandising:
Manages the visual merchandising of any store set ups and remerchandising projects.
Provides visual direction and guidance by conducting in-store visual workshops and trainings.
Oversees the implementation and accuracy in the execution of plan-o-grams by all retail store operations team.
Guest Service:
Responds to special requests of guests as well as guest inquiries concerning visual props, materials and displays.
Ensures a maximum level of guest service and satisfaction is achieved and maintained in both experience and presentation.
Creates the brand experience appropriate to the venue.
Training & Development:
Provides additional visual merchandising support for all store operations team and coaches them on merchandise presentation standards.
Organizes visual merchandise presentation training for new buyers and staff.
Organizes meetings to coach managers and coordinators on all aspects of visual merchandising.
Communication:
Participates in conference calls as needed and adhere to daily phone and e-mail communications.
Assist with any store project punch list to ensure all issues addressed and closed.
Maintains department standards of excellence by meeting all deadlines and ensuring accuracy of all work produced and is within the allowable budget.
Attends weekly visual staff meetings and provides the Director of Visual Merchandising and Store Design weekly updates on visual recaps concerning current project list.
Staff Retention:
Retains staff through involvement in associate training and development.
Participates in weekly visual staff meetings and partners on visual installations and in-store set ups.
Coordinates training of subordinates as needed; evaluates associates under his or her span of control; and becomes involved in resolving disciplinary problems that cannot otherwise be handled by the appropriate manager or supervisor.
Operations:
Ensures compliance with applicable company policies and procedures by enforcing consistency within the department.
Co-manage presentation material for the Visual department which is used as a guide to inform all retail associates of visual merchandising standards.
Meets with Merchants to strategize and brainstorm new merchandising opportunities and objectives.
Reviews operational and presentation needs and concerns to help support the overall visual direction of the store.
Utilizes computer programs to interpret, guide and communicate the visual direction of the company.
Support the retail division on all projects needing creativity and results in all areas of visual presentation.
Support Employee Sales Events.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Previous experience in a retail environment with visual merchandising background is required. This individual must have demonstrated creativity and results in all areas of merchandise and presentation; possess college-level courses and industry-related training and experience pertaining to field; have at least five to seven years management experience.
QUALIFICATIONS:
This individual must be self-motivated, creative and innovative; possess the ability to organize, plan, prioritize and commit to project deadlines with an attention to detail; be able to lead and communicate to a team of visual merchandise coordinators; must be an effective communicator with strong leadership skills; and have the ability to uphold and demonstrate the highest level of professionalism and integrity in all situations and recognize standards required by a regulated business and be a role model for outstanding customer service at all times.
