VM Dissertation advice needed!

Hi Everyone,

I am currently a third year studying a degree in Fashion Management at Birmingham City University. For my dissertation I am looking at visual merchandising techniques and how I can make sourcing resources easier for companies.

My Idea is to create an exclusive service that offer companies a modern studio space in which to source VM materials, discuss projects and be inspired. Visually the space will showcase new materials, trends & ideas. Companies will also have space to display old prop's which can be reused. All VM need’s can be dealt with under one roof with help from in house Visual merchandising experts.

Could you possibly give me some thought's on my idea and how you think it would work in the VM world?

Thank you-

Naomi Rowland

This would have to be marketed to individuals and boutiques not necessarily Visual Managers of big box retailers (Macy's, Nordstroms, Sak's, etc.) as they have so little leeway in deciding what to use and usually very little budget for prop purposes. It would be good for the inspiration, tho.
I think it would be a great place to own and/or work in, but I fear that your traffic would be so low since so many retailers are cutting visual merchandising out of their budgets and so many small retailers are stretched so thin, they don't see the value of a killer window display or an end cap or feature table.

Thank you for your reply.

I have considered this and the recession with budgets being cut.

I was looking at current retail and lifestyle trends and an emerging trend for VM is reusing, recyclable products and also revamping old props and materials.

Do you think if my business incorporated helping companies reuse old materials and advise how to rework them, the whole 'green' issue this would make my business more current and successful?

Thank you,

Naomi Rowland.

A literature review examines the existing literature to discover the strengths and weakness in the literature. As well as demonstrating knowledge of existing research, a literature review should also identify gaps in the literature that the thesis as a whole is intended to fill. It provides the backdrop to, and reasons for, conducting the research.Correspondingly to the academic degree, the last phase of an academic thesis is called in Spanish a defensa de grado, defensa magistral or defensa doctoral in cases in which the university candidate is finalizing his or her licentiate, master's, or PhD program.

The principal parts of a loom are the frame, the warp-beam or weavers beam, the cloth-roll, the heddles, and their mounting, the reed. The warp-beam is a wooden or metal cylinder back of the loom on which the warp is wound. On a conventional loom, the weft thread is carried on a pirn, in a shuttle that passes through the shed. A handloom weaver would propel the shuttle by throwing it from side to side with the aid of a picking stick, on a power loom the "picking΅ is done by rapidly hitting the shuttle from each side using an overpick or underpick mechanism controlled by cams.Logo Design|Web Banner Design
