5 Ways This Chic Restaurant Cooks Up a Memorable Experience

1. BACKLIT BEAUTY

Backlighting behind the bar creates a statement through a combination of lights, mirrors and metallic surfaces. According to Amit Aurora, Founder, Principal Architect, groupDCA (New Delhi), the firm charged with the space’s design, the illumination of the metal frame’s slim profile creates a mesmerizing composition of glass, metal and light.

2. MIRROR, MIRROR … ON THE CEILING

Mirrors situated on the ceiling provide the narrow seating area more visual height, and reflect jewel tones from the flooring below as well as other materials like vibrant upholstery. The ring lights surrounding some of the mirrors project a distinct sparkle onto the floor.

3. STATEMENT MAKER

Custom created for Klap, the entry signage was “mounted on a large wooden frame and each letter backlit with slim strips of light for maximum impact,” says Rahul Bansal, Founder, Principal Architect, groupDCA. “This sign is the first thing you see when entering the restaurant, so we wanted to make a strong impact.”

4. SOPHISTICATED AND SPUNKY

The hard-to-miss terrazzo flooring was a starting point of the project, custom created to tie together the design aesthetic through a rich depth of color. Flecks of various blue, green and yellow hues contrast other deep tones found throughout, creating a playful yet relaxing vibe.

5. BEST SEAT IN THE HOUSE

All furniture pieces were custom designed for the space, including barstools and floating tables with “spider-like” legs paired with intimate, heavy wood armchairs. The second floor features an outdoor terrace (not shown) allowing guests another unique option. “The wide variety of seating gives customers the freedom to choose where they can sit, each option a unique way to experience the restaurant,” says Aurora.
