Haverty Furniture Cos. Inc. (Atlanta) released its first-quarter earnings report. Total net sales increased 5.3 percent to $191.3 million, and comparable store sales increased 3.8 percent.

The company saw the average written ticket up 4.8 percent and custom-upholstery sales were up 11.1 percent. Despite those gains, it saw gross profit margins drop 53.6 percent, due to lower delivery fee revenues and close-out merchandise sales.

According to The Wall Street Transcript, the company’s Chair, President and CEO Clarence H. Smith said, “We are on track with our initiatives of increasing average ticket, strengthening our brand, and expanding our store base.”
