Burdines

Naples, FL

When Burdines decided to renovate its Naples, Florida, unit, it wanted the store to feel like part of the neighborhood, not just part of a chain. So designers at New York City-based WalkerGroup/CNI created a space that reflects Naples'resort atmosphere while also communicating Burdines'strong regional identity.

With a new second floor and other renovations, the store incorporates the best of both. A vaulted atrium acts as a skylight, while airbrushed clouds in its center (a Burdines'trademark), palm trees and dolphin mosaics (such as on floor tiles) emphasize the local color. Sun-bleached woods and soft peach tones are offset by accents such as wainscot wood panels (characteristic of local beach houses) and faux coral and stone features that break up long walls throughout the store.
