Ace Hardware (Oak Brook, Ill.) is charting another 40 store openings by the end of the year, which would make 170 store openings for the retailer in 2022.

In August, the company said it would continue to invest in expanding its distribution network to house more inventory closer to Ace stores and customers. Those investments include the opening of three new warehouses in the next five years.

Globally, Ace Hardware has cut the ribbon on more than 900 stores in the past five years.

“I applaud our local Ace owners for the pace with which they’ve integrated our digital efforts with our physical assets,” said CEO John Venhuizen, noting that 70% of online orders are picked up in store and 20% are delivered by employees.

Ace Hardware operates more than 5600 locally owned stores in all 50 states and 65 countries. It’s the largest non-grocery retail cooperative in the U.S.
